SUMO’s Retirement Ceremony – What is “Danpatsushiki”?

On October 2, a retirement ceremony was held for former top division rikishi Sokokurai who’s from China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is every rikishi’s dream to finalize his sumo career at the venerable Kokugikan. The grand finale of the event is cutting off the rikishi’s top knot to signify the termination of his pro career.
