They thought Mona Kimura was just a karate fighter. But her journey took her far beyond karate. Starting at just four years old, Mona built her foundation in karate and went on to win the JKJO All Japan Junior Karate Championship seven years in a row. Then she entered boxing. She became a decorated young boxer, represented Japan at the 2022 Women’s World Boxing Championships, and continued building her career in the ring. But 2022 brought one of the hardest moments of her career. After suffering an early defeat at the World Championships and another difficult result at the All Japan Women’s Boxing Championship, Mona stepped away from boxing. Then everything changed. She entered kickboxing. Her karate background gave her unusual kicking ability, while her boxing experience gave her powerful hands. From her early Krush fights to her rise in K-1, Mona began developing a style that was very different from the fighter she once was. Her side kicks became one of her most recognizable weapons. Then came K-1 GENKI 2026. Mona Kimura faced South Korean fighter Eun Ji Choi in her first K-1 main-card appearance. Despite facing a more experienced international opponent, Mona adapted throughout the fight and won by unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three scorecards. This is the story of how a karate prodigy became a boxer, survived failure, rebuilt herself through kickboxing, and stepped onto the K-1 stage. From karate to boxing. From failure to comeback. From Japan's young karate champion to the fighter known around the world as the “Real-Life Chun-Li.” They Thought This Illegal Move Would Stop Mona Kimura… Until This Happened #k1 #karate #taekwondo #martialarts #combatsports #kick
