At just 5 feet 1 inch tall, Ryuju Nagayama may not look intimidating at first glance. But on the judo mat, his explosive power, precision, and timing can turn even the smallest opening into a spectacular throw. Known as “Mini Hulk,” Nagayama has built his reputation through extraordinary technique and relentless attacks. His battles against elite judoka such as Naohisa Takato and Yago Abuladze reveal what makes his style so difficult to handle. Against Takato, Nagayama delivered a spectacular Uchi Mata with seconds remaining. In their later encounter, he changed direction in an instant, switching from an Uchi Mata threat to a decisive Seoi Otoshi. And against Abuladze in the Paris Grand Slam final, Nagayama turned early pressure into a remarkable comeback, using explosive throws to seize control and secure the gold medal. But his greatest strength isn't just one spectacular technique. Nagayama links Seoi Nage, Uchi Mata, and counterattacks into a system where every defensive reaction can create another opportunity. His opponents aren't simply defending against a throw. They're trying to anticipate what comes next. This is the difference between knowing a technique and mastering the timing, movement, and combinations that make it work at the highest level. Watch how Mini Hulk proves that in elite judo, size is only one part of the equation.
