Shakur Stevenson’s style has become one of the most debated topics in boxing. In this video, I react to the conversation between Shakur Stevenson and Shannon Sharpe, where they discuss Shakur’s approach to fighting, his defensive skills, and the criticism he has received for making some of his fights less entertaining for the casual fan. For the purists, Shakur’s ability to control distance, make opponents miss, dictate the pace and win rounds through technical skill is exactly what makes him special. But for the casual audience, the same defensive approach can sometimes be viewed as boring — especially when they want constant exchanges, knockdowns and dramatic finishes. So where does Shakur’s style fit in modern boxing? Is he being unfairly criticised for doing what elite boxers are supposed to do — or does he need to give the audience more excitement to become a true superstar? In this video, I break down the discussion with Shannon Sharpe and look at the wider debate surrounding Shakur Stevenson’s fighting style, entertainment value and place in boxing.
