New Zealand recovered strongly through Lou Vincent? No—the outstanding batsman was Mathew Sinclair, who produced a magnificent 150, his second Test century. Sinclair batted for an incredible six and a half hours, facing 321 balls and striking 23 fours and a six. South Africa then responded through Neil McKenzie, who scored a stylish maiden Test century. His 120, containing 20 fours, was crucial after South Africa had slipped to 209 for 7. McKenzie and Nicky Boje then produced a record-breaking eighth-wicket partnership of 136 against New Zealand, putting South Africa ahead and completely changing the momentum. South Africa then struck repeatedly. Shaun Pollock removed Richardson and McMillan with successive deliveries, while Makhaya Ntini dismissed Astle soon afterwards. The decisive collapse came during the fourth-day afternoon session. New Zealand lost five wickets for just 69 runs, which captain Stephen Fleming later described as the result of poor batting and poor decision-making. Then came a devastating finish from Lance Klusener, who claimed the final three New Zealand wickets in just 10 balls. Suddenly, South Africa needed only 86 runs for victory. They completed the chase by seven wickets, securing their fourth successive home Test series victory and giving Shaun Pollock his first Test series win as captain. A classic Test featuring Sinclair's record-breaking 150, McKenzie's maiden century, Boje's crucial contribution and a stunning New Zealand collapse that handed South Africa another home seri
