Every foreigner Japan pushed out of sumo has a story the headlines only half told. This video traces how foreign sumo wrestlers went from curiosities to champions, and why so many of them left the sport under a cloud. Some exits were earned. Others raise harder questions. We start with Takamiyama and the Hawaiian wave of Konishiki, Akebono and Musashimaru, then follow the Mongolian era through Asashoryu, Harumafuji and Hakuho, the most decorated yokozuna in history. You'll see how the Japan Sumo Association's one foreigner per stable rule came about, what happened in the Wakanoho and Roho cannabis dismissals, and why Osunaarashi was forced to retire. We also cover the Hokuseiho scandal that shut down Miyagino stable and led to Hakuho leaving sumo altogether. Is this sumo discrimination, strict discipline, or both? SumoSpirit Channel looks at the rules, the scandals and the men behind them, along with where Terunofuji, Kotooshu, Hoshoryu and Aonishiki fit into the story. Stay to the end for a clear picture of what the foreigner question means for sumo's future. If you want to know who the sport pushes out next, like this video and subscribe to SumoSpirit.
