Nick, a life-long bachelor who authored the book "I Hate Kids" finally decides to marry, only for the 13-year-old Mason to show up and claim that Nick is his father. Unable to find out who's Mason's mother is, Nick and Mason embark on a journey to meet Nick's former sweethearts and flings.
