On June 14, 1997, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, an unbeaten 20-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced experienced lightweight Larry O’Shields in the eighth fight of Mayweather’s professional career. Coming into the fight, Mayweather was 7–0, while O’Shields was 12–3–1. Mayweather had won his first seven professional bouts, stopping five of his opponents, but O’Shields represented a step up in experience and had already gone the distance in a number of professional fights. Mayweather was unable to produce the stoppage he had become accustomed to, but his speed, accuracy and defensive ability allowed him to control the six-round contest. O’Shields survived the full distance, with Mayweather being awarded a unanimous decision after six rounds. The fight was also part of a major night of boxing in San Antonio, taking place on the undercard of Oscar De La Hoya vs David Kamau. 📍 Date: June 14, 1997 📍 Venue: Alamodome 📍 Location: San Antonio, Texas, USA 🏆 Title: None 🥊 Result: Floyd Mayweather Jr. UD Larry O’Shields ⏱️ Rounds: 6 📊 Records at the time: Floyd Mayweather Jr.: 7–0 Larry O’Shields: 12–3–1 🔥 This was an important early-career fight for Mayweather: rather than another quick stoppage, he went six rounds with an experienced opponent and added a decision victory to his rapidly developing professional record. -------------------- ╔═╦╗╔╦╗╔═╦═╦╦╦╦╗╔═╗ ║╚╣║║║╚╣╚╣╔╣╔╣║╚╣═╣ ╠╗║╚╝║║╠╗║╚╣║║║║║═╣ ╚═╩══╩═╩═╩═╩╝╚╩═╩═╝ to the channel people 00:00 Intro 2:45 Round 1 5:15 Round 2 7:25 Round 3 9:35 Round 4 -------------------- Follow me insta @charlessalbox facebook @charlessalbox Footage rights provided by WSC Sports - https://tinyurl.com/charlessalbox #boxing #usaboxing #boxeocubano #canelo
