I hadn't a clue what the ending was really about but that was a great damn movie. Even though it was made during the 2010s the quality and cinematography was absolutely top-notch! psychological thriller movies are absolutely the best! shutter Island has become one of my top faves. After reading the comments, I am interested in more films the director of this movie has made.

The line at the end "Is it better to live as monster or to die as a good man". OMG now I finally understand the ending! At the end he seems to pretend he regress again just like the doctor stated that after those roleplay session he goes back again like a loop(he resets again to his own fanatical reality —which he's "the good man" in there being Edward Daniels whose a marshall investigating the lost patient and because the truth reality of him Andrew Laeddis is the most painful, traumatic and insane reality that happened for him to accept and which it's already stated that his true reality is the "to live as a monster" where in fact if he purposely accept his true reality) but it seems so but there's a gap! He knows he'll be back again at regression(resets) so he pretends that HE DID and when the decision is made he's only one way ticket out is the "Transorbital Lobotomy" and he needed it that way and it's late for the doctors after realization. Good movie and plot twist, love it!
