كوب (ليوناردو دي كابريو) هو عميل من طراز خاص جدًا ومستوى رفيع للغاية، في الواقع هو متسلل أحلام! يقوم بتجنيده رجل أعمال فاحش الثراء يدعى (سايتو) كي يقوم بالتسلل إلى عقل أحد منافسيه يدعى (روبرت فيشر) بمساعدة جهاز خاص، بزرع فكرة داخل عقل الرجل تبدو وكأنها تأتي من داخله هو نفسه، وليست من الخارج. الفكرة هي أن يفكك الرجل شركات أبيه التي سيورثها عنه.
