Rob Hodgins opens up on Fabio Wardley’s incredible rise from white collar boxing to WBA heavyweight world champion ahead of the huge showdown with Daniel Dubois. Speaking in Manchester during fight week, Hodgins revealed why he believes there is still “a lot more to come” from Wardley and explained how Fabio’s boxing IQ and movement continue to be underrated despite his reputation for all-out wars inside the ring. Rob also discussed Wardley’s past sparring sessions with Dubois, admitting Daniel got the better of Fabio early on, but insisting Wardley learned from every session and eventually began turning things around in the later spars. Hodgins praised Dubois’ jab and improvements under his current setup, but made it clear Team Wardley fully understand the threat in front of them and have prepared with Ben Davison and the team for every aspect of the fight. The Wardley trainer also reflected on Fabio’s remarkable journey from the white collar scene to heavyweight world champion, saying that in another era Wardley’s story would be viewed as almost mythical because fighters simply do not come from that background and reach the top of the sport.
