Aonishiki is collapsing at Aki Basho 2026, and the sumo world is trying to understand why. The Ukrainian sumo star arrived in September carrying huge expectations, yet his form has slipped badly day after day. Meanwhile, yokozuna Onosato sits at the top of the leaderboard while fighting through an injury. We go through the key bouts up to Aki Basho day 7, from the questions around an Aonishiki injury to the Onosato shoulder problem that has fans holding their breath. We also look at who is lurking in the yusho race, including Hoshoryu, Kotozakura, Kirishima, Atamifuji, Hakunofuji, Gonoyama and Fujinokawa. Each has a real path to the title if the leaders keep stumbling over the second week. This grand sumo tournament could reshape the ozeki and yokozuna picture for the rest of sumo 2026, including Aonishiki's own ozeki standing and yokozuna hopes. On SumoSpirit Channel, we cover sumo news and sumo results with context, so you understand not just who won but why it truly matters. If you want to see whether Onosato can hold on and Aonishiki can recover before the final day, like this video and subscribe to follow every single bout of the September basho with us.
